Vilela, peace and quiet just outside Chantada

Casa do Coucheiro is located in Vilela, a small hamlet of just six houses in the parish of San Tomé de Merlán, in Chantada (Lugo).
Its location lets you enjoy the peace and quiet of a small rural hamlet while keeping everyday amenities close at hand: Chantada is just 1.5 km away, and there is a local grocery shop with long opening hours only 900 metres from the house.
From the house itself, you can set off on foot to explore the surrounding countryside around Vilela, where fields and farmland alternate with woodland and small villages. An easy way to enjoy the rural setting without having to take the car.

Water is one of the defining features of the Ribeira Sacra. Cruising between its steep slopes offers a completely different perspective on the landscape.
You can take a catamaran trip along the Miño or visit the spectacular Sil Canyon, where the river winds between dramatic cliffs and lush vegetation.
One of the area's must-see landscapes is Cabo do Mundo, the sweeping bend carved by the Miño and one of the most iconic views in this part of the Ribeira Sacra.
Viewpoints, trails and heritage
The Ribeira Sacra is also a place to explore slowly. Viewpoints over the Miño, paths through vineyards and forests, and small Romanesque churches dot a landscape where nature and history come together within just a few kilometres.
Places well worth discovering include Cabo do Mundo, the village of Belesar and the Romanesque heritage of the Miño area of the Ribeira Sacra.
If you prefer exploring on foot, you will find numerous walking routes that let you experience the area at a slower pace.
Chantada, just a stone's throw away
Just 1.5 km from Casa do Coucheiro, Chantada combines the tranquillity of Vilela with the amenities and atmosphere of a small Galician town, including supermarkets, pharmacies and a health centre.
Take your time to explore its historic centre, wander through its streets and squares, discover its traditional architecture and stroll along the River Asma.
Chantada is also a great place to discover the local cuisine and enjoy its bars, restaurants and regional produce.
